Winter months signal the start of the peak period for UK holiday home and static caravan refurbishment, and a rolling window replacement scheme often forms part of the preparation for the busy holiday season.

Folkestone trade professionals will receive a welcome boost to business, with the opening of a new store at the Five Acre Trade Estate.

The Window Store, which specialises in PVCu building products including, windows, doors, and conservatories, has opened one of its largest branches in Folkestone, potentially creating four new jobs in the area.

Open to trade and retail customers, the impressive new branch, which features an attractive showroom with a large trade counter, provides everything needed for replacement and maintenance work, as well as new-build residential and commercial projects.

SHOOTER TARGETS LONDON 2012 WITH WINDOW STORE SUPPORT

Olympic hopeful Charlotte Kerwood has received backing from local window company, The Window Store, in her bid to represent Great Britain at London 2012.

A former European and Commonwealth champion, and currently the top ranked female shooter in Great Britain, Charlotte is working hard to ensure qualification for next yea's games.

This has been made all the more likely thanks to a regular donation by The Window Store. Based on Hammonds Drive Industrial Estate, the local window company, who supply a wide range of windows, doors and conservatories, have been regular financial supporters of Charlotte's local shooting club, which has helped Charlotte in her Olympic training.

Commenting on her Olympic aspirations and the support that has helped her so far, Charlotte said: "All the training and competitions I have undertaken over the past four years has been about reaching London 2012. I think it's the same for most UK based competitors; to represent your country is a real honour but to represent them in your home country is the ultimate.

"I've been a member at Northall Clay Pigeon Club for many years and the role it's played in helping me achieve my various accolades should not be underestimated. "After the Beijing games, shooting budgets were cut and a lot of work has had to be put into securing funding ahead of next year's games. Whilst larger organisations like Sport England have been fantastic, it is the backing of local companies, like The Window Store, that have made me feel very proud of my community.

"Every year the money they generously donate goes toward improving facilities at Northall CPC and ensuring that it is there for the next generation of Olympians."

YEOVIL HOMEOWNERS ‘IMPROVING NOT MOVING’ SAYS LOCAL WINDOW STORE

Yeovil home owners are leading the way in the south of the country by “improving not moving” home, according to The Window Store, which has 15 branches in the region, supplying windows, doors and conservatories to local tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts.

According to a recent survey by the company, the Yeovil branch, located on the Houndstone Business Park, is experiencing some of the fastest growth in replacement PVC windows and doors. As Branch Manager Darren Woodgate commented: "The local market is still slow for new housing projects and estate agents are reporting local house sales are stable but not breaking any records, so there is a definite trend towards people improving their property rather than moving."

"We are also seeing local landlords investing in their properties, so they keep occupancy levels high." "Replacing rotten timber windows with more energy efficient, low maintenance PVC models can improve the look of a home and there is growing demand for sash window styles, which suit the more traditional properties in the area."

"Where security is a concern, Yeovil homeowners are also changing their old timber doors for new composite doors, which have modern locking options and are very low maintenance."

"Plus where local people need more space but don’t want to move home, we are seeing an upturn in conservatory sales."

In other parts of the south east and south west, The Window Store reports that the trend is more towards installing new rainwater systems and underground drainage or sewer systems, especially in areas that suffered from high rainfall or heavy snow last winter.

Some Window Store branches are also seeing more growth in decorative products such as window blinds, which are a very cost effective way to make cosmetic improvement to a property.
